Fern Fragrance is an aldehydic accord with a fresh, green, and aromatic scent.

In perfumery, it is generally used as a heart note, adding structure and balance to fragrance compositions. This powerful accord enhances and supports citrus accords, giving them greater depth, character, and lasting power.

The fern is a primitive plant that produces neither flowers nor seeds and belongs to the Pteridophytes. It has existed for millions of years and reproduces by spores. Ferns grow in humid, shaded environments throughout the world, particularly in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

In perfumery, however, the fern note is not derived from the plant itself, as natural ferns have no exploitable fragrance. Instead, it is a synthetic olfactory accord first introduced in 1882 with Fougère Royale by Houbigant. This fragrance family is built around a blend of fresh, lavender, herbaceous, woody, and subtly amber facets.

The fern fragrance evokes a clean, green, aromatic freshness with soft woody and lightly musky undertones. It has become one of the fundamental fragrance structures in classic and masculine perfumery.
